The Last of the Lucky – You Can’t Always Get What You Want (2024)
”Ten years after taking the photographs in Cuba, the artists began to inquire into what the work would look like in the age of Artificial Intelligence. Focusing their prompts on the mould marks, conceived as material manifestations of temporal events, Källström and Fäldt uploaded the 2014 photographs to DALL·E and asked it to generate new versions of the images. The random stains caused by the proliferation of micro-organic life on the negatives were interpreted by the AI as a rigid, ordered grid of sharp red dots. Produced on November 5, 2024, the day of Donald Trump’s re-election to the White House, this output raises reflections on how knowledge is shaped by the spread of large language models and redundant computational logics, and how the future will be shaped by knowledge.”
