Calendario Triestino / The Many Faces of the Moon (2024)
”Calendario Triestino / The Many Faces of the Moon (2024) connects significant events in the city of Triestes’ history with images of the moon corresponding to the dates in question, taken from the NASA website. While Trieste is where the first lunar Atlas was created by the Bavarian astrophysicist Johann Nepomuk Krieger – who established his observatory in the city at the end of the nineteenth century –, the moon is historically the subject of geopolitical tensions. In the 1970s, it was the point of contention in the Cold War between the United States and the Soviet Union. Today, it is the object of attention from China, intending to expand its Skynet system into a lunar surveillance network through the permanent installation of cameras aimed at Earth”
